Healthy Pettis Eager for Match Against Cerrone
When Pettis was released from a Milwaukee hospital after a 3-day stay for cellulities, (a skin infection) he said that he was “feeling a lot better”.
When asked about his upcoming matchup in the face of his illness, Pettis said his plan is still to fight Cerrone on Jan 26th. The feud continues as he laughed at Cerrone’s recent talk of being tired of waiting, and said that he looked forward to fighting the former WEC star.
“I’m not going to fight unhealthy.” Pettis said.
The Pettis-Cerrone matchup was delayed due to Pettis undergoing shoulder surgery over the summer. While his recent hospitalization had nothing to do with the surgery, fans were beginning to worry.
Pettis did dismiss the notion that the fight with Cerrone was for a No. 1 contender spot in the light-weight division, but the rumor continues to circulate.
Pettis demonstrated that previously offered but non-appearing title shots are the reason he chooses to focus solely on Cerrone.
“I don’t even care anymore,” he said, “until the contract is signed, I’m not thinking about that.”
Pettis is focused on staying healthy and gearing up for his match with Cerrone on January 26th.
